Core Healing and Negative Energetic
Complexes (Samskaras)
by
Darren Starwynn, O.M.D., Dipl. Ac.
In the course of treating your patients, or dealing with
your own self-healing, how many times have you felt that you were mostly skimming
the surface, not really getting to the root of what was the causative issue? How
many times have you treated patients repeatedly with good results, only to see
them slip back into the same old patterns of pain and dysfunction? It was these
experiences that motivated me to inquire deeply into core healing. Like most of
us, I chose the field of acupuncture because it is a healing art that does work
on a holistic basis, embracing physical, emotional and etheric levels of effect.
Yet acupuncture is only a tool, and the level of its effects depend on the consciousness
and depth of the practitioner and the patient. There is little training in acupuncture
schools for working at core depth.
Most of our patients come to us with specific physical or emotional complaints-
some kind of pain. I am broadening the meaning of the word ?pain? here from just
noxious sensations of the nervous system in response to injury to the whole gamut
of suffering on all levels of awareness. Chinese Medicine teaches that all pain
is due to energetic blockage that is impeding the free flow of Qi and Blood. Therefore,
whether due to physical trauma, emotional shocks and losses, disease, or spiritual
issues, there is something in the organism that is in the way of the natural tendency
for energy to circulate and flow. In the case of emotional pain, there is a sense
of separation from love, nurturing, family or inner self. This is also a blockage
of natural flow.
The Nature Of Life
A basic Truth is that the entire Universe is a Unified Field of manifested Energy
whose nature is Love, which is God. The terminology is not important here, the
words God, Universal Energy, Christ, Great Spirit, Tao, First Cause, etc. are
all interchangeable. The point is that the bottom line nature of life is to move
and flow, to change and evolve and transform. When we are freely moving with this
great dance of Life, there is abundance and harmony in all things available to
us, including life force, health, joy and love. Chinese Medicine teaches that
the Liver is the Organ that is most responsible for maintaining the free flow
of Qi in the organism. TCM also states that the Liver is the seat of the Hun,
or Ethereal Soul, that which links us to the Divine. Think about this for a moment.
The more connected we are to our Divine nature, the more freely our Qi can flow
through our bodies. Please also think about how much we in the Western world continually
abuse our livers with processed foods, toxic and addictive substances and toxic
repressed anger and resentments. This helps us to see how so much of our pain
and disease is self-created.
It is very clear that few people on this planet are primarily living in a state
of abundance, joy and love, even though that is the true nature of the Universe
and ourselves. Why is this? To attempt to answer that I could write a major treatise
on the inherent dark side of humanity going back to Eve biting the apple, but
instead will keep it simple and brief. What follows is my understanding of this
important question.
As mentioned above, the inherent tendency of Life is to evolve and transform.
Apparently, the essence of Who We Are, often called the Soul (Hun) has been on
a long journey of discovery and evolution from the density of matter and separation
to the higher frequencies of Spirit. It is vital to know that we are pure Spirit
having a human experience, rather than the other way around! We have always been
unlimited Spirit at our core, but we have accumulated a heavy load of internalized
impressions in our cellular and energetic memory during our long journey. It is
my belief that most of us have had many incarnations to get to where we are now.
Although these are usually referred to as ?past lives?, it is even more true that
all of these experiences exist simultaneously in the Now, just like the many facets
of a cut diamond. It is not necessary to believe in past lives to practice Core
healing. As you practice it, however, you will often hear clients describing surfacing
memories that are clearly not part of their present incarnation, and connecting
with and releasing the energy associated with these memories is often key to their
healing process.
Samskaras and Subpersonalities
Being human has meant living through so many ups and downs and so many disappointments,
traumas, false beliefs, overwhelming fear, betrayals and shocks, even many births
and deaths. In response to these experiences, we have sometimes created long-lasting
vows, or entered into ?contracts? with other beings in an attempt to alleviate
the trauma or to gain protection of some sort. The impressions from some of our
more intense experiences have captured an aspect of our consciousness that over
time has taken on a life of its own. These are called ?subpersonalities? and are
responsible for feelings and behavior that prompts people to say things like ?I?m
just not myself when I?m drinking? or ?The Devil made me do it? or ?I don?t know
what came over me?. Understanding subpersonalities is very important to the healing
process.
In most of us, these impressions, subpersonalities and contracts have become internalized,
and create the ?baggage? we carry through our lives. Samskaras is an ancient Sanskrit
word for all this inner baggage. ?Negative energetic complexes? is a modern synonym
for samskaras. I will use the Sanskrit term in the rest of the paper because it
is shorter. Samskaras most strongly affect and dwell in our chakras, or energy
centers of consciousness. We will be working with chakras extensively in this
course.
Just like the rain clouds that temporarily block the Sun (which keeps shining
anyway), our true nature can feel obscured by these complexes our clients and
we carry. The greatest illusion is that we ?are? the samskaras, rather than the
clear Light behind them. The essence of depression and so many other mental and
emotional disorders is identification with samskaras as being the self rather
than an acquired experience of the self. Samskaras are often the underlying causative
factor behind chronic pain and disease. Unless they are recognized and new, life-affirming
decisions made, there will no lasting cure for many painful and debilitating conditions.
The Law of Synthesis and Vibrational Medicine
Core Healing is the practice of facilitating the client to consciously connect
with these complexes in a spirit of acceptance and love so that they are able
to choose a different, more harmonious reality, and the higher Light of Spirit
can unwind them out of the person?s energy bodies and experience. Just as it is
the nature of life to flow and transform, it is also the nature of Higher vibrations
of energy to uplift and purify those which are denser and less evolved. We call
this the Law of Synthesis. The good news is that we, the healer/facilitator, don?t
have to do the healing! The energy will unwind and resolve on its own if given
the chance. Our job is to help the client to open and stay in the moment with
the process. There is usually a strong tendency for them to want to escape facing
the truth within the samskaras by going into the mental, leaving the body or otherwise
avoiding that which is being uncovered. The facilitator acts as a guide, coach
or cheerleader as it may be to help keep the client on track, and to help them
to bring in and open to the Higher energies.
So what is the relation of all this to acupuncture and other vibrational medicines?
Acupuncture is the practice of using external interventions with needles, heat,
electricity or light to help open energetic blockages in the body. It can work
at many levels ranging from superficial symptomatic relief to deep core healing,
depending on the intention and depth of attunement of the practitioner and the
patient. Color light therapies and sound therapies create positive resonance fields
in the physical and energy bodies. This can make connection with inner truth more
easy to access by increasing groundedness in the body and helping the client to
feel more of the free flow of their own energy. This creates a gateway through
which positive transformation can take place.
Transforming into what? The process of core healing shifts the balance of power
within the client between love and fear, heart and mind, personal will and Divine
Will. This creates an opening for their Divine Template to replace distorted and
limited aspects of consciousness. This is literally a ?reboot? of the client?s
internal operating system!
To the extent that this happens, the client finds greater autonomy within their
own essential qualities, and are less influenced by samskaras from the past, and
the mass consciousness around them. Their own inner healer and guidance systems
are now real and present. It is this re-birthing of the Divine Template, and the
inner freedom to be, love and celebrate life and self that represents true healing.
